The two mistakes that cost people their starter rewards

Claiming late. New-player gifts are usually tied to the character creation window or the first login. Create the character the day you register, even if you cannot play yet.
Spending the reward before choosing a build. A spellbook (or any one-off reward) spent on a class you abandon is a permanent loss, see our beginner mistakes guide.

Are these bonuses worth creating an account for?

Yes, if you were going to try the game anyway, a free spellbook or seasonal reward path is the cheapest possible head start. No, if the bonus is the only reason: starter items accelerate a character you intend to play, they do not replace the decision to play one.
