Throne and Liberty

Is Throne and Liberty Worth Starting in 2026?

An honest look at starting Throne and Liberty in 2026: how the early game feels, what the population situation is like for new players, and who should skip it.

Throne and Liberty sits in an awkward place. It is a large-budget free-to-play PC MMORPG with territory control, mass PvP, and a combat system that changes completely depending on whether you play solo or in a guild.

So is it worth starting now? That depends on which of those two players you are.

What the game does well

  • Scale of the open-world PvP. Territory and guild conflict is the point of the game. When it works, it produces fights no other current MMO matches.
  • Combat that rewards positioning. Weapon combinations instead of rigid classes keep the build space open longer than most.
  • It is genuinely free to try. You can evaluate the whole thing without spending anything.

What makes it hard for new players

The biggest issue for a late arrival is progression pressure. The endgame is guild-driven, and guilds care about attendance and gear.

That is not a design flaw. It is the design. But it means a solo player who logs in for two hours a week experiences a much smaller game than someone in a coordinated guild.

Who should start

  1. Start if you play at least a few evenings a week and you want to be inside a guild that fights over territory.
  2. Start if you enjoy a combat system you can tinker with for months.
  3. Skip if your goal is a calm solo progression game with a strong story. That is not what this is.
  4. Wait for a fresh server if you care about competitive standing. Joining an established one means starting behind.

How to start without wasting the first month

Pick a weapon combination you enjoy before you optimise it. Join a guild in your timezone in the first week. Treat the main story as a tutorial rather than the game.

And do not reroll because someone in chat says your weapon is weak. Balance changes. Your gear does not follow you.
