Lost Ark: Progression Mistakes New Players Make

The Lost Ark progression mistakes that cost new players the most time: wrong gear investments, skipping catch-up paths, ignoring alts, and the solo wall.

Lost Ark has more parallel progression systems than almost any game in the genre. That is exactly why new players stall. They optimise the wrong one, or all of them at once, and end up progressing in none.

1. Investing in gear you are about to replace

Early gear tiers are stepping stones. Spend only what the guided path tells you to spend. Saving resources for the tier that lasts beats a small power spike now.

2. Skipping the catch-up path

Catch-up systems are not a shortcut for lazy players. They are the intended route for people arriving now. Following them is faster than improvising. Every time.

3. Ignoring honing failure probability

Progression is probabilistic. Planning around bad luck, by building material buffers instead of gambling everything on one attempt, is the difference between steady progress and quitting in frustration.

4. Refusing to play alts

Alts are not a second character. They are an income multiplier. They generate the materials your main needs, and they teach you mechanics you will need to know anyway. A single-character account plateaus early.

5. Treating gear as the only gate

The real gate at each raid is knowledge. New players buy power to compensate for not knowing the mechanics. It does not work. The mechanics kill you regardless of item level.

6. Raiding without a group

Matchmaking is fine for learning and terrible for clearing. Join a guild or find a static group before you hit the difficulty wall, not after.

The short version

Follow the guided path. Do not over-invest early. Build a small roster. Find people to raid with.

That is the entire secret. There is no further optimisation that matters before you have done those four things.
